the signs are good that the 7s will be arriving in time for the Barbican show (just), am expecting to take receipt of them on the day. will be deposting supplies with the merch stall, and provided Howe has the means to there will plenty for him to take back to sell at future gigs. stateside orders are more than welcome though @ www.theorchestrapit.com/shop, but please be aware that it is only the tracks on the bonus disc which are not taken from the existing Live CD/DVD package. Fuzzy, i will start processing orders just as soon as i am receipt of copies, so there's a good chance it will be with you for the weekend. by the way, i have one spare ticket for the Barbican show...anyone wanna pay face value (£20) and i shall throw in a dbl 7" - contact me here if interested: vacilando68@hotmail.com.

We shall see how Spain fare when they face the mighty Scotland in a couple of months time (we have a track record of beating World Cup winners, just ask England). Looking forward to the Barbican show very much, and sounds like we are in for some new songs, always a good thing.

went to winchester last night. weird venue in strange out o town place but a good venue none the less. intimate. giant sand played a lot of new stuff and a lot of the provisions material, which i thought was slightly suprising due to the 25 year slogan the tour has

Hi Fuzzy, thank you kindly for your order - my blurb, my pleasure: 7 inches of sno' - Howe Gelb 'Sno Angel - double 7" Single.....Two stand out tracks from the CD/DVD package ‘Sno Angel - Winging It’ - “Nail In The Sky” + “Worried Spirits”; coupled with re-renderings of a pair of Giant Sand numbers in “Neon Filler” + “Chore Of Enchantment”. All tracks feature Howe and his Canadian based ‘Sno Angel touring band backed by the Voices Of Praise choir. Lead track “Nail In The Sky” is pure Howe, playful lyrics, a subtle sigh in the voice and those chords picked out just so, providing that fine patina that coats the best of Howe’s sonic wardrobe, and with a chorus to rival Neil Young at his most populist. The remaining tracks finds Gelb and band taking a more bluesy rocking direction on a cover of Rainer’s “Worried Spirits”, whilst Howe’s Americana-beatnik persona is more to the fore on “Neon Filler”, and the Voices Of Praise provide a fitting crescendo on the closing “Chore Of Enchantment”.

I am just wondering if Javi has come down from Spains world cup celebrations? As Javi was kind enough to send myself and Ian G copies of Alegrias, I will try to get the 7" Snow Angel live and send it on.

The release of Valley Of Rain is in a corrected order per Mr. Gelb. Also, the majority of the release is taken from the cassette with the original mixes. Any bonus material will come later separately or as online promotional material (free)...

...well, whilst there doesn't appear to be a whole heap of release activity upcoming! hope to be able to pass over copies of the 'sno angel live double 7" we are very proud to be putting out to the merch stall @ The Barbican on Thursday night, but is very much touch and go whether they will turn up in my eager palms in time...if sadly they don't, or for those not going to the show, you can place your orders via http://www.theorchestrapit.com/shop [P.N. don't believe our pay pal a/c allows for any kind of variation on the p&p, but wherever you are in the World, just round it up to the next pound, peso, euro or rupee, and we will ensure it gets out to you]. thanks, Shaun, The Orchestra Pit / Vacilando '68.

Thanks for the fire records link, Mr. Archivist. So apparently there will be no extra tracks or bonus disc (on this one, at least)? The track listing seems to be reversed compared to the last CD release on zippo (which started with Down On Town and had Valley Of Rain as track 7). But I wonder if this is the version from the cassette of the original mixes Howe talked about? Probably not, because it’s billed as a re-release. I also wonder what fire records plan to put on these box sets?

With all these new releases and re-releases coming our way I hope the MARS-The-Movie-soundtrack will not be forgotten ("written by Howe Gelb and including performances by Howe Gelb, Giant Sand, Neko Case, Victoria Williams, Jason Lytle, Kristen Hersh, John Convertino, Bill Elm, Mark Smoot, Nic Koller, and more.")

Just to be clear, I was only having a we moan the other day, I was not fretting..... I suppose my joy at seeing all the forthcoming (re)releases is tempered by my skepticism about the economics of a box set. I want the box set, with bells and whistles attached, but I have my doubts as to whether we will ever see it. Realistically, how many people are going to be in the market for the box set? It surely won't be very many, unless you are The Beatles, Led Zep or Neil Young I'm sure these sort of collections don't shift in huge volumes. The GS one alone will have a minimum 17 discs and perhaps some bonus stuff. I'd guess it is going to retail at a minimum of £100, probably considerably more. I'd happily place my order for one today if I could, and I would even endure the deferred gratification of waiting until the schedule of releases was complete before I got my hands on my set if I was certain it was going to happen. I'm sure Fire Records have researched their market before committing to such am ambitious campaign and, quite obviously they know more about the business of selling cd's than I do ( I am an expert on buying them though). I hope they are rewarded for their efforts. On a positive note I am looking forward to the show at the Barbican in a week or two and Kristen Hersh's new cd/book/whatchamacallit is very good so that should be a great show.

si - thanks for the link. So Fire Records is really serious about that. Wow, hats off! Hope they have enough breath (or rather bread) to keep the reissue series up until the Blacky Ranchette section is reached (still tbc says press release below). Heartland would be on the top of my reissue wishlist (there has never been a proper, complete CD-version as far as I know), hopefully with liner notes , extra tracks and all. In my book one of the best records ever made, by anyone. Listened to it again recently & thought this is like Nashville Skyline and Highway 61 Revisited rolled into one.

well, the news is there on the fire records website, so it sounds pretty official: http://www.firerecords.com/site/index.php?page=news&artistid=307 i don't know if this is a brave or foolhardy undertaking, but it's pretty wonderful and dizzying news! i wonder how they'll tackle it? will there be the full cd/vinyl/download options? and how heavy will that giant sand box set eventually be??? who knows, but exciting times ahead....
